First off I dined here for 3hrs. It is a nice, romantic setting. I felt it was kind of pretentious. .as though the wait staff kma. Anyway, I ordered the honey roasted duck. It was delicious-although my fav is still Crazy Water. I also had some kind of chocolate cake. Seriously had a food orgasm in my mouth.Recommend? Definitely. Sanford house cocktail also spritzy fruity and worth applause.
I’ve been everywhere in town and to Sanford several times. It’s hands-down the best restaurant in Milwaukee. Go knowing it is a small dining room and is not inexpensive but the food and service is fantastic.
Changed. We went back multiple times after my last review, the last time being after the chef purchased the restaurant, and it will probably be our last trip for awhile. All 3 courses left something lacking.. and there were empty tables. In the last year I have very rarely seen an empty table. I do understand the chef was just nominated as a James Beard contender, but I left quite disappointed.27 Feb, 20125 Star Standard. Everything about my meal is what I would have expected from a 5 star restaurant, and more. We made reservations, they had a valet, coat check, romantic calm sophisticated ambiance, courteous and polite staff, and excellent food. Our waiter gave great food descriptions and advice. They were out of the first wine we ordered, but the second choice had a beautiful bouquet which complimented our meal perfectly. We had seafood.. fish soup, sturgeon, shrimps and scallops, all cooked perfectly with divine flavors. The cherry clafoutis is a beautiful desert. We will absolutely be back soon.
Share the dessert. Great service, started off with a muse of pork head with horseradish, it was a little gamey, then started with the special app sausage and sheep cheese plate with smoked grapes that tasted like a campfire, we then had the steak and the sturgeon, the sturgeon was amazing, then finished with the banana tart, it was huge, too big for one

Best in class. Milwaukee just doesn’t have another place like Sanford. If you like to eat large portions, and get in and out in 30min, this is not for you. If you enjoy the ART of food and service, then make this a frequent date spot. Milwaukee has few places with real food artistry. SANFORD is awesome.
The food is great, very creative, but the atmosphere is just too quiet and stuffy.
