Always leave this restaurant with a bad feeling. I’m a foodie and I don’t mind paying higher prices if the food and wine is extraordinary. But it is just an average steak and potato restaurant with lots of butter. The atmosphere is nice but very loud unless you reserve a table in one of the corner rooms. The servers were very professional, however.

Ribeye!. The sides and appetizers were nothing special, but the ribeye was delicious! Cooked perfect at a medium rare, hot, melt in your mouth. Pricey, but next time wouldn’t waste my money on too many extra but just the steak. That is definitely worth going back for.

Sent back 2 out of 3 steaks and had horrible service. 1.5/5 starsI’ve been to Ruth’s Chris around the country at least 20 times and had some incredible steaks at several, but none in the last decade. That record will stand unchanged, as I have no plans to go back to one because Ruth’s Chris has stopped buying quality meat and no longer cares about service. The first time I visited the Middleton RC, I sent back my ribeye as it was slightly overcooked and tasteless, worse than a steak from Outback. The second was better, but still nowhere close to an USDA Prime steak – either Ruth’s Chris is buying Choice and claiming it is Prime, or their meat supplier is lying to them and selling them Choice (or worse) and charging them for premium meat. Service was average. The second time we had a truly horrible server, who was snotty, rude, and altogether inattentive. Our meal lasted over two hours because of our server’s numerous delays and there were several occasions where he ignored us for 30+ minutes. 10 minutes after receiving our entrees, I had to flag down another server to send back my steak, which was, again, bland and unacceptable and when our server finally came over to our table, he started arguing with me about the quality of their meat, inaccurately claiming it was superb and of course USDA Prime. I would have gotten as much enjoyment out of lighting three $50 bills on fire as I got from wasting that much money on such a thoroughly unenjoyable meal. I filled out the RC online survey when I got home and complained in detail about the lousy steaks and the abysmal service. RC’s manager contacted me and was very accomodating and gave us a free meal on the house, requesting that we ask for him at our next visit and that we ask for that server again who would make amends for the poor service he gave us. We did talk with the manager the next visit, but was astonished that our prior server was still with the restaurant – I would have fired him if I learned that he gave such poor service to my customers. We insisted on a different server, did receive good service and better steaks the third time around, but they still were no better than borderline Choice to Prime level steaks, not premium quality. To be blunt, I think Ruth’s Chris is hurting financially and they are cutting corners with their food. They ran a Groupon special not too long ago, which they would not have done if they had had a good, satisfied customer base. Each of the last half dozen steaks (generally USDA Choice ones at that) I have had from The Prime Quarter grill-your-own steak restaurant on E. Washington Ave. has been better than any of the allegedly USDA Prime steaks I’ve had from Ruth’s Chris, my meal has been much more enjoyable than at Ruth’s Chris, and has cost less than half the price. For a comparable price, Fleming’s has much better steaks, much better service, and much better sides and deserts than Ruth’s Chris. Supposedly UW sports icon Barry Alvarez owns the Middleton Ruth’s Chris. If he put even 5 percent of the care and effort he puts into sports into his restaurant, it would be a huge improvement. If/when the Middleton Ruth’s Chris shuts its doors, its owners will surely blame the post-2007 downturn in economy. Instead, they should look to themselves for serving mediocre, grossly-overpriced food and failing to ensure that their management has premium quality service from the waitstaff, which is what is mandatory with the premium prices they charge.

Great Steaks, But Overpriced. Our dinner at Ruth’s Chris began with the veal osso buco ravioli with spinach, which was nice though the spinach was still too bitter for my taste. We followed that with the petite filet and shrimp from the prix fixe menu and a ribeye. Both steaks were served on sizzling platters, buttery, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. The filet melted in the mouth, while the ribeye had wonderfully rich flavor. If you don’t order one of the preset dinners, the sides are a la carte, but the portions are big enough to share. We had garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus, both of which were above average. We took a slice of chocolate cheesecake to go, which completed an excellent meal. That said, it is still hard to justify the price you pay to dine here. The steaks were great, but weren’t the best I’ve ever had in a restaurant. The service is quite professional and very attentive–almost annoyingly so as no need goes unfilled for more than an instant. The interior is a little too dark, but ambiance is romantic, with candles at the tables and a fireplace in the dining room.Grade: B+

Good, but I don’t feel good about going there.. We had a lovely dinner at Ruth Chris on Saturday night. It was packed, we had a reservation and were seated promptly following a nice greeting. My wine was wonderful, our food was wonderful. We both had the filet, mine the petite, my date’s the regular. They were cooked to perfection, well, sort of. Mine was supposed to be medium rare, his was supposed to be medium and it appears that they confused the two. No matter, both were delicious. The panko onion rings are huge! Too many for two, but delicious. Our server was very kind and very attentive and kind of funny. She and everyone else making sure we were never out of water or additional plates were a little too much a part of our experience for our taste. Although our meal was good I would much rather eat at the Tornado Room, which I feel has better food over all and might be minutely less expensive. Oh, the sizzling butter thing tastes good initially, but we both felt it was too rich to really be sustainable. Additionally, they use corn fed beef. I would prefer to eat grass feed beef for many reasons, some of which don’t make sense considering that I ate a steak sizzling on a plate of butter.

Best of madison. Yes the prices are unreasonably high, but I think fair for what you get. Its not often, even at a great restaurant like this that I am am pleased with every little thing and I was. The apps, soup, entree, dessert, drinks. Everything was just spectacular. Usualy when i dine theres one dish I say i was too fond of. At Ruth’s I was amazed by even the bread.
