Favorite. My husband and I have been repeatedly gone back time and again over the last decade to Vin Santos. It is one of our absolute top 5 favorite restaurants in Madison. Our introduction to their fabulous bread pudding was listening to moaning sounds (of ecstasy) from a couple sitting to the table next to ours. A must have item is their Fruitti de Mar.
Worst Meal Ever. $120 for pallid chicken piccata with mucusy lemon sauce, ravioli from Sam’s club and a bottle of wine. Really? There is no reason to go to this restaurant,the decor is awful, the food awful and the prices awful. See review on Yelp for more detail.
I visit this authentic Italian eatery every time I visit Madison. It has a very comfortable atmosphere with about 8-10 tables. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The menus changes with the seasons and chef tastes. The wine list is pretty good. They have a wine drink called Bellini that is white sparking Italian wine with a little peach nectar added. I’ve had seafood dishes any time I go and they never disappoint. The appetizers are enough for two. This last visit I forgot the name but it was large shrimp, artichoke hearts and cherry tomatoes in a light broth over spinach linguine. Extremely good!
Quaint and Authentic. We had a great time and meal at Vin Santo. Very authentic Italian food. Pasta’s were fresh, sauces were very tasty. Try the Tramisu for dessert. Very nice experience. It’s small but quaint. Your not going to find a lot of privacy if you are looking for it. Can get loud depending on how full the restaurant gets.
Tiramisu. If you go to Vin Santo, finishing dinner off with the tiramisu is a must. I recommend sharing a piece with someone else, as it is huge.
A Favorite. We love Vin Santo and have gone there about every month or two for 3 years. Small place, warm and inviting, and the lovely host/owner Clarissa greets us like family when we walk in. Her husband/chef makes fabulous and imaginative sauces to accompany the comforting Italian dishes. Their italian sausage is probably the best we’ve had anywhere (including fancy places in LA, NYC, Philly, etc). There are special lasagna, fish, and ravioli dishes every night. The lasagna is cooked to order so it takes a while, but is so worth it. If you are lucky enough to go on an Italian sausage lasagna night, the portion is enormous, and every bite (yes, every bite) includes sausage and cheese – it’s the bomb. I had a veal ravioli in a butter sage sauce recently that was fabulous, and unlike some pricey new Italian places where the portion is 5 or so ravioli, this dish had 10 or 12 large ones. In fact, all the portions are large, and really reasonably priced. Their wine selection is pretty sparse, and we haven’t had good look finding one we like. But that is the only down side to what is always a fantastic and totally filling meal.
A family Italion restaurant with unusual ambition for its setting. Well prepared items in a friendly rather cozy setting. Portions are large, prices are modest, and the food is tasty and satisfying–so the place has a large and loyal following. Can be a bit heavy.
