Been here twice in the past month. Nice environment, friendly staff, good menu, but the food is ok to good. The best dishes we had were a couple of appetizers, the bruschetta trio and Brussels sprouts. Very good! We had the salmon, walleye, cod, a firehouse burger and a pasta dish. The burger was also very good, and the fish was all prepared well, but the fish dishes were bland, nothing extraordinary for the price. There were also some serving issues, like only having enough appetizer plates for only part of our party and the server disappeared when we were ready to pay our tab and leave. The only other turnoff was the fact that even thought this place is very nice, I had to deal with several small flies and house flies while I ate indoors.

Our group tried the Verona Woods for dinner Sunday night. I’d heard good things so I was excited to try it.The area where it is located and the building itself seem very new. Inside was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Our waiter took our drink order, then our appetizer order, and eventually our entree order. He seemed to disappear periodically but luckily other servers came by to replenish water pitchers. For starters we ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke and the Crab Stuffed Mushrooms. The tuna was tasty. The mushrooms didn’t really match the menu description. It was a small platter filled with tiny mushrooms and stuffing and then melted cheese on top. The stuffing reminded me of Stove Top and didn’t seem to have any crab flavor. For entrees we had the Woods Baked Ziti, the halibut, the french onion chicken, and fish tacos. Everyone thought their meals were fine. Nothing stood out as exceptional, but no-one had any complaints either. If I was in the area I would not hesitate to go back and try it again, but I also would not make the journey down from Madison just to go there.

My biggest takeaway after two visits here is that it is simply kind of so-so. The menu is huge, and sometimes when you have that big of a menu the quality suffers and that definitely seems to be the case here. Our first visit was shortly after it opened, so there was definitely a learning curve to be had. Didnt find anything on the menu that stood out though and is worth mentioning for our party of four plus kids. Felt like a Sysco truck catered event. Our second visit for a birthday gathering was more recent, and I had the adult Mac and cheese which wasnt too bad, and the crispy Brussels sprouts were good; not overcooked but caramelized and flavorful. My husband had street tacos. I noted huge portions of everything our party had, especially the baked ziti. It all still seemed somewhat mass-produced though, but better than the first visit for sure. I would love to see them pare down the menu and focus on the quality. I will likely try to visit once more for the fish fry to see what thats all about but otherwise could take it or leave it.
