I have to admit I’m surprised at the number of negative reviews. Last year I moved into an apartment complex down the road from quivey’s, possibly the best amenity at this complex…kthe fish fry is to die for along with almost every meal here. I never go without getting the fried chicken appetizer, and many of their dishes use parmesan potato breading, a definite plus for those with gluten allergies. (And it’s worth noting that the bread basket didn’t have any adverse affect on my gluten-intolerant girlfriend.) I certainly don’t want to discount those who haven’t had a good experience here, but all of my 10+ meals have been outstanding.
The Stable Grill has a good fish fry and burger and the best atmosphere of any restaurant in Madison. The Stone House is a bit fancy, but it’s entertaining to eat in an old house. The food is more expensive, but the duck was amazing. Also, I love the local Wisconsin food theme at both restaurants.
I have ‘liked’ this place, purely because of the outside dining area in the summer and the Christmas decorations during the holiday season. The food us average, as is the service, and the wait is always terrible but the place itself is lovely.
Went there for resteraunt week. Neat atmosphere, great service but was very dissapointed with the food.
Friday fish fry. The tradition of Friday fish fries is something I can appreciate coming from New Orleans, where we use catfish instead of cod and serve hush puppies instead of Parmesan potatoes. However, Quivey’s Grove left something to be desired. Simple is good, but maybe this was just a little too simple. I’d go again, but it would be for the atmosphere, not the food.
Simply fantastic food… Great experance the atmosphere was incredable and worth the wait
Hard to go back to a restaurant that asks you to leave to clear space for the next customer.
