Enjoyed this kinda charming place, and it’s a place you wanna like, ya know? Nice neighborhood, busy Friday nights, good drinks etc. Food is above average and totally acceptable. Service a bit spotty – some staff are on their game and professional, others make it feel like you’re at a school bake sale or some similar allusionary reference of your choice. This joint is ok in my book.
Fish fry. Have had them in the, past and they were good but just had a take out order and it wasn’t good, fish way too heavily battered. Don’t know if we will order their fish again. Their other dishes are very good and would go back for them.
Waste of time. I took my wife here on Friday the 13th. I can’t say if the superstitious date had anything to do with our experience or not. We waited over an hour to be seated while people that were coming in after us were seated almost immediately. Must have been friends of the rude hostess, who is the owner’s wife. The server, or should I say lack of our server, was horrible. The food was average at best. Fish was greasy. The only positive thing were our cocktails. BUT…make sure you have the bartender with the red hair make your drink (she is excellent). The dark haired one just stares at you like you are a bother to her.
Great food! So fresh and you could tell food was well prepared. Servers were friendly and informative. Shared their love for the food and explained dishes with detail making your mouth water. Will come back to try Friday Fish Fry.
Fish Fry. Been to Wegner’s a number of times since they opened. I love the fact that their fish fry is haddock, but the last 2 times there seems to be more batter than usual on the fish. When you have more batter that means more grease. I hope they go back to a light batter.
Updated: I used to love their Friday Fish Frys. I’m fine with waiting for a table…though it can be well over an hour at times. You can try and enjoy a beer or two while you wait (that is if I can actually get to the bar since it’s so small and crowded). But, there are too many hassles trying to put your name on their waiting list. This past Friday several other groups were put ahead of me on the list despite that they just walked into the restaurant and I had already waited 20 minutes. When I first arrived I asked the hostess to be put on the list, but she stated (with an attitude) she would as soon as her hands were free. This wouldn’t have been a big deal if this was the first time it happened, but this was at least the third time this has occurred. Their fish is excellent, but it’s just not worth dealing with the attitude from the hostess, cramped dining room, and long wait.
