Don’t waste your money.. We visited the Armory. The food was cold and not tasty. The waitstaff needs some serious training. I wanted a second drink during dinner and I never saw the waitress until the check came.
Five stars. My wife and I haven’t been to The Armory in quite some time. We had been strong supporters but the last few times there have not been pleasant ones. We heard that they finally hired a new chef and so we decided to try it again. We walked into a very busy night. We were greeted by a smiling hostess who took us to a table immediately. Our waitress was pleasant but just handed us the special sheets and walked away. We had to flag her down to get our drinks ordered. We both ordered specials. My wife got the prawns and I ordered the veal. Both dishes were outstanding. The veal was cooked perfectly and the prawns were the best we have had outside of Chicago. We then ordered dessert. We waited for a couple minutes and then the chef himself delivered our pecan pie himself boasting it would be the best we ever had. I must say he was correct! We fought over the last bit of sauce. All in all we were very pleased to go back and give the Armory another try.
Appetizer came late. Our appetizer came after our food was here. I had to remind the waitress about it. I should have returned the nacho appetizer because it didn’t look good anyhow. I didn’t like the dish. I also ordered a corned beef Reuben sandwich and that was seriously a BIG JOKE. It was not made with corned beef, unless people from Janesville has a different type of corned beef. To me, it tasted more like ham. The price was okay. The beer was cheap ($2/bottle). But I was really disappointed with the meal.
Good service, nice menu but the wine was high
Disappointing. I had high expectations that Janesville would finally be getting a decent restaurant as most of the fine dining restaurants have closed over the past couple of decades. (The Monterey Hotel, Selens). The Armory has very average food and service with the usual dinner theater talent. It’s typical dinner theater talent and food, but I was hoping for better . . .
WE LOVE THIS PLACE!. I have been going to The Armory for 2 years. It is not french, there is no pretensions for our city and everyone loves the food and service! They have the top professional servers and one of the states best chefs. With a dinner theater, comedy club and lunch and dinner…this place rocks!! BTW – they have 20 wines to get by the glass. Try it!
This restaurant was awful. Wait staff was unprofessional. We ordered a bottle of wine asked for a suggestion the waitress said she didn’t drink wine. We decided on a bottle my parents ordered white and I ordered a glass of red. My red came out in a white wine glass and she gave my parents red wine glasses. She announced while opening the bottle she had never done it before and promptly corked the wine.the Restaurant had advertised French food I was shocked to see nachos as an option of the menu is this a pub??? I will never go here again!
