A pleasant surprise as we picked this restaurant last minute. The scallops were fantastic and done perfectly with an awesome flavor. We also had the London broil which was also cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth. Staff was very friendly and did a great job with service.
Hard chicken. Will never return. THE worst chicken piccata ever. Yes, prepared it gluten free, but I was there with a group of over 50 people…and there were 10 orders for chicken. No one had good chicken. It was so overcooked, so hard, and when trying to cut it, near impossible. When we complained, they brought out another…just as bad.
Overpriced for the level of quality and service. We are putting our son through college so, for budgetary reasons, we do not dine out much at this point in our life. Ironically, we decided to take our son and his girlfriend out to celebrate the completion of an extremely challenging yet successful semester of classes. I had heard positive feedback about Pogrebas and decided to give it a shot given the special nature of the occasion. Past experience with higher-end restaurants had typically resulted in great food and even better service. This time was different. The food was very good in general. Two of us had the tenderloin and lobster combo, one had prime rib, and one had crab legs. My only food criticism would be that the crab legs were cut in half lengthwise, and some of them were a bit muscly and inedible. Other than that, the food was very good but not over-the-top great as I had expected. Service started out positively, very quick with proper attention at appropriate intervals. We had a couple drinks, ordered a bottle of wine, and looked over the menu. The wine took a long time to be delivered, too long in my opinion. The salads were served at the appropriate interval, and the entrees were similarly delivered at about the right time. The two plates of tenderloin and lobster at just under $50 each were delivered without knives. I flagged down the server who sounded responsive. After waiting for a longer period than seemed reasonable, I had to get up and also approach the Host to ask for knives, as the food was beginning to cool off. There was a difference of opinion at our table with respect to my handling of the missing knives, and tension ensued. While some thought patience was a virtue, others felt that the level of service should increase proportionately with the cost of the meal. Put simply, the knives should not have been forgotten in the first place and in any case, the replacement knives should have been delivered posthaste. The remainder of the meal in terms of discussion was less than optimal, the original purpose for celebration was muddied by the negative experience. The restaurant was not overly busy, no wait lines for tables. The serving staff, kitchen, and bar should not have been taxed beyond their capability. We did receive two complimentary deserts but that was too little too late to compensate for the experience. At the end, two of our group went outside while I paid the bill. When the bill was delivered, I immediately put my credit card in the holder and sat it on the table, and we waited. And we waited. And we waited. I got up and visited the restroom and when I returned to the table, my son and the bill were still waiting at the table. Most of the tables around us were empty, so I could not chalk it up to the server being too busy. One of my pet peeves is to be made to wait to pay the bill for a meal, particularly after a less than positive experience. We waited well over 10 minutes just to pay the bill but in that situation, it seemed like an hour. One last comment relates to the crab legs. The person who ordered them wanted just the crab legs she saw the add-on 12-pound option at the end of the menu and did not want any side dishes. When the bill arrived, I noticed that the price was $37 rather than the $13 for the add-on. It turned out that the server entered the order for a full pound rather than a half pound and, even though there were no side dishes ordered with the legs, we were charged the full price of a crab leg entre meal. At that point I did not care, I just wanted to leave. In a nutshell, I believed the prices were very high relative to the food quality and service. The experience taught me that you dont always get what you pay for. While this might have been an off night for the restaurant, it was enough to prevent me from recommending it to anyone else. I definitely will not return.
