Came in for lunch on a Friday. Was very crowded. So I expected the food to be very good. The menu had a nice selection of sandwiches and soups and salads. I got the Reuben sandwich with homemade chips. The food was delicious! Service was not ideal. They were very slow to get more water and the check and did not provide me with a napkin until I asked. It seemed like the wait staff was fairly new and under the direction of a manager who was a little overwhelmed. Would go back. Was a very tasty meal.
Drinks & Such on Friday, 4/1/2015. I could not get waited on at the bar for my life. I was totally confused by bartenders. I finally moved so that I was not behind the taps. I eventually got a beer but I was totally disappointed in his knowledge of beers AND his lack of the gift of gab. When you go to an Irish bar, you expect the bartender to be able to carry on a good conversation, especially if you are alone,I had the Mac and cheese and totally loved it! Just needed a better bartender.
Terrible service at the bar. Mediocre food.. I’ve eaten at The Cooper’s Tavern many times in the past couple of years… I’ve definitely noticed a decline in the level of service. My husband and I ate at the bar. The bar staff completely ignored us for most of the evening. I had to flag staff down to ask for water on two separate occasions. After my husband finished his beer, he waited at least half an hour to get anything else to drink. The food definitely isn’t good enough to make up for the poor service. It wasn’t busy at all–one of the bartenders even had time to pull their phone out and text for a few minutes.
Two tries- still hasn’t hooked me. Great ambiance. Lackluster food (have tried multiple menu items).
Not Your Ordinary Lunch. Yesterday was my first time stepping in through the doors of Cooper’s Tavern and I was pleasantly surprised by the bustling restaurant. It was chic rustic, cozy, friendly, and somehow, familiar. We were greeted promptly and sat down pretty quickly, granted it was a little bit too busy for my coworker and I to have been there at 12:30 p.m. on a weekday when we only had half an hour for lunch, but it was worth it! I got the chicken sandwich (pan-seared chicken breast served on sourdough with chipotle mayonnaise, aged cheddar, bacon, and avocado) and it was amazing, still was even the next day when finishing off the second half of my sandwich! What their description of the chicken sandwich does not tell you is that it is tender and juicy chicken, served on a slightly toasted (but not crunchy or too dry at all) sourdough bread, with what I hope is homemade chipotle mayo but either way it provides the perfect little kick to the sandwich, with flavorful aged cheddar, some of the most amazing bacon I have ever had (I believe it was applewood smoked as there was this sweet smokey flavor which was like no other I’ve tasted before from store bought bacon), and lastly with a slice of the most perfectly fresh and ripe avocado ever; this was one of the BEST sandwiches I have had in a long time and I got it with the greens which were also so good! Sometimes restaurants can epically fail on the side greens by not properly taking the time to wash them fully (others may not notice this but I am sensitive when it comes to under washed veggies or fruit but it could also be from wax if it is not organic) or the greens will just be all floppy and have one foot out the door, but these greens were springy and fresh with flavor and they had some sort of light vinaigrette dressing on it that perfectly complimented everything! I may have only been here once, but this place had great food, not badly priced, the manager/owner was charming and so polite when we asked him a random question about events going on on the square and although some of the staff was in training and maybe given our time crunch for lunch, could have been quicker or more prompt about some things, this was still an amazing lunch which I would certainly be inclined to go back again for lunch or dinner to try the rest of their amazing food and will recommend it to my friends as it was such a lovely place, meal, and people.
The atmosphere was really cool. The staff was very nice and the food was good. I had the burger, which hands down has one of the best buns I have had on a burger. The meat was great quality and cooked perfectly. I just wish the burger size was a little bigger. All in all a good place to go to.
Beer and a Burger. Went on Thursday lunchtime and it was pretty quiet. Bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about beers – able to recommend an excellent IPA. Ordered a burger which came quickly and was delicious. Nothing fancy, but the meat had fabulous flavor and (cooked medium) it was dripping with pink juices. Crispy bacon, mayo and onion. Homemade chips were tasty and not too salty. Will definitely be back next time I am in Madison.
