Great Food. We stumbled across this place in Madison. I was a little leery of going into a hotel restaurant, but my apprehension was put to rest when I saw the menu. I had the duck, which was served over noodles. The food was astounding. I’m not entirely sure why this restaurant hasn’t moved out of the hotel – as I’m sure they would be doing a lot better on their own. This was a great meal and I would recommend this to anyone.
Impressive. We had intended to start with something else, but the waitress said the braised calamari was one of the chef’s specialties, so we followed her lead. I have only ever had calamari in the common breaded and fried fashion, so this was certainly a change of pace. It was served in a broth with peppers, which didn’t overwhelm the calamari but provided a really great range of flavors. The calamari itself was a little chewy, but we still liked the dish. My wife’s strip was cooked perfectly and my duck breast was terrific. The skin was crisp and well seasoned, the meat was a nice medium rare, and it had a great salty/sweet balance with the dried figs–a really great plate of food. This place is apparently known for the three unique sauces the chef offers with each dish, but we barely touched them. The food was good enough on its own.As with most hotel restaurants, the prices are a little higher than you’d expect, but the food does impress. Portions were easily enough to satisfy. Service was fine. The atmosphere was nice, but not as impressive or romantic as we had hoped. The crowd was pretty light on this midweek visit and we seemed like the only diners who weren’t staying in the hotel.Grade: B+
Love the sauces. I had a wonderful dinner here last night. I had the scallops with three fantastic dipping sauces. The choices of the sauces are extensive. It’s great being able to try some from everyone at your table. The service was excellent. the dessert was presently beautifully and was a perfect portion size. I can’t wait to go back.
The Sauce(s) is the Boss. Tried the Swordfish special May 29th. Not only was the fish cooked to perfection, but the sauces that the chef is known for paired wonderfully with the meal. We all tried each other’s accompanying sauces, and they were all great. My wife ordered the salmon special, and the flavor and crust on the fish were exquisite. I would definitely go back.
