I finally ate at Short Stack. Stopped in on a weekday (Friday) I think. I’m super picky about pancakes, so decided to order waffles instead. They were quite good. Tasted very much like my homemade waffles, but maybe a bit salty though. I tried a bite of my daughter’s pancakes, and have decided I will most definitely order their pancakes on my next visit. The decor is comfortable and charming. Collected/mismatched vintage-y tables and chairs, make the setting feel very cozy and relaxed. Same deal with the coffee mugs. None were the same, and reminded me of the miscellaneous mugs that get stuck in the back of your cupboards, or the type one may still find at grandmas house. The whisk chandelier that you see upon entering is super cute, and totally appropriate. Menus and menu board located at the front cashier. Make your selection there, order and pay, then find seating. Your order will be delivered to your table by their wait staff, but coffee, and water are self serve. Oh, I ordered a mimosa as well, and it tasted very good. I look forward to giving them another try.
We’ve been to Short Stack previously and really enjoyed it. That’s why when our friend was in town and wanted to go out for breakfast, we took her to Short Stack. It was a Friday morning @9:00. They place is quirky and fun. The tables are glass w/old post-cards and envelopes under the glass. Mason jars and whisks have been refurbished into lamps and chandeliers. Great atmosphere. We ordered at the counter and then took a seat in the window. Although busy, it was not particularly crowded and our food arrived within a reasonable time-frame. Everything looked amazing. My dining companions ordered the breakfast sandwich and a skillet and really enjoyed them. My food however was not so good. I ordered the Cajun biscuits and gravy and poached eggs. The Cajun gravy was quite tasty but the biscuit was bone-dry and rock-hard. Even using a knife it was tough sawing through the biscuit. Worse, was the poached eggs. Although very pretty, served snow white in a sundae glass, they were hard-boiled inside. I’m not talking slightly overcooked, these were hard-boiled eggs inside. Completely solid. I know poached eggs can be tricky to cook, but this was ridiculous. So, a couple of dishes were off, not the end of the world. But the service was also really disappointing. Literally we were completely done eating and nearly ready to leave before anyone came back to our table to ask how it was. I think the only reason she came back was to clear the dishes. I mentioned the eggs and she said she’d mention it to the cooks. Since she could actually see the hard-boiled yolks left in the dish, I thought she should offer to provide new ones. She didn’t and I wouldn’t have taken her up on it anyway since we were already done eating, but again I felt like it would have been appropriate for her to offer. She also finally asked if I wanted a refill on my ice-tea which I did since it had been almost empty when the food first arrived. Just checking on us 20 minutes earlier would have been better. We have had good food and service there previously. My companions enjoyed their food today, but this was a very disappointing experience for me.
Went to stacks for brunch with my wife and two other couples. Almost everyone ordered the trio(pick three items out of list). I ended up picking out four items: eggs, a blueberry pancake short stack, potatoes and bacon. This time we got a booth and the service was fast and enjoyable. I will go back again and again. I just love this place.
Went here after watching the parade with a friend and fortunately the place didn’t really full so decided to take a break here. Ordered buttermilk pancake and chocolate chips pancake for my friend. We were so surprised to see how much they served us because both of us had already eaten before. The buttermilk pancake was served with butter and maple syrup, the chocolate chip one was the chocolate chip pancake served with maple syrup also cream and choco chips on the top. The pancake tasted good, not surprising tough.
Very friendly service, exceptional pancakes, good breakfast burrito. Order, then sit then get served. Odd setup for first timers. Poor signage outside so know its across the corner from the Art Museum.
First Time at the Short Stack. I entered the restaurant for the first time and veered of to the left to see if there was an opening at the counter. I totally missed the sign that said to place your order at the front counter so it took about five minutes before I figured that out but that was my fault.I ordered the Eggs Benedict without reading the description. I was a little disappointed with the Biscuit replacing the English muffin and thought the Hollandaise Sauce was a bit flat. When I went back and read the description it was all there the biscuit and the house-made sage and thyme Hollandaise Sauce. After reading the description I got what I asked for and it lived up to it’s description – very good.I do wish they would offer a choice for the Hollandaise Sauce – classic or sage and thyme – I missed the taste of lemon.I”l be back to try some of the the rest of the menu. Two more small issues:1. I couldn’t find a place to throw away my garbage after making my cup of coffee so I brought it back to the counter.2. The rug in front of the water cooler slides around too freely which I would think is dangerous – get and under padding so it won’t slide.
The worst place I have ever eaten. WOW – we at thei Sunday -te WORST place EVER – 1. Pretentious 2. Waitresses looked unshowered – 3. expensive – 4. have to stand in line to order under pressure – 5. if you miss something good luck standing in line again – 6. NO SPOONS – I had to ask to get ONE Spoon – 7. everyone was bitchy , 8. asked to get catchup the waitress snarled – it;s over on the shelf – 9. has a lady folding napkins but still had to silverware out to get – 10. Did not greet of saying have you been here before – to explain how that innane system worked – 11.
