We went to the Fountain for some burgers, and we weren’t disappointed. The Fountain is an interesting place, with several entrances and two distinct dining areas. There is a small room in the front right off of State Street with a nice bar and a few tables. There is also a side entrance and a rear entrance, though I’m not sure if the rear entrance is open. We entered through the side and sat in the back dining room, which has old booths and a big bar as well. Some folks were setting up for a Jazz jam, and a few other tables seemed to be enjoying themselves. Pretty old furniture, and not impeccably clean, but not dirty either. We read that the Fountain focuses on local/seasonal fare, and they definitely had a great local beer list. We had onion strings and beer cheese soup as an appetizer, and they arrived lightning fast. Good onion strings and very tasty homemade soup.We both had a build-your-own burger for dinner. Great choice of toppings. We both really enjoyed our burgers. Perfect medium rare and really tasty beef. Very messy, but really good. The sweet potato fries are great and there were good french fries as well. Good sauces to go on the burgeers and to dip the firs in as well. I like the chipotle aioli and the smoky bleu cheese dressing.Nothing fantastic, but a very satisfying burger with pleasant service.
Good food, friendly service, relatively cheap drinks. Nice mix of people between the front and back rooms.
Got 2 hours?. First and second time I tried The Fountain, we didn’t see a server for 20 minutes. Our food took over an hour and the place was empty. It is as unremarkable as it is over-priced.Avoid.
$6.50 for a weak Old Fashioned. They ran out of corned beef and didn’t tell us until our other food was ready. So we ended up splitting the Fountain burger which was NOT stuffed with cheese (as advertised). Poor service as well. Will never go back.
Good cheese curds and nice drink prices for the area. They have a really cool old bar/back bar and the bartenders actually know it’s history.
Rip off. No good. bad service. bad food. bad prices. nothing that made me want to go back.
Yummy food, super comfy atmosphere. My friend Kri and I decided to head here for lunch spontaneously. Had a really nice bartender/server named Chris who gave us menu recommendations upon my request. Kri and I shared the BLT, steak sandwich, sweet potato fries, and beer cheese soup. All of it was absolutely delicious — we decided we would go back…and next time it will be for beer at happy hour time! 🙂
