I’ve been exploring vegan and vegetarian food and places.I really liked the raw tacos here and plan to try more.My only complaint was the stuffy air inside so we sat outside, which I wouldn’t want to do unless beautiful out.

Poor Service. I can’t really say what I think of the food here, to be honest. We were never served. It was mine and my bf’s first visit to the cafe, which we were very excited about- finding an all vegetarian restaurant. Our excitment quickly dwindled after the poor service we received- or lack of service, I should say. I purchased a Groupon, as we love trying new places often or finding new places to take friends. We went in around 8:30PM, the place wasn’t too busy at all. It took a few minutes for us to even be noticed at the door, then we finally got a quick hello from a gentleman who sat us, gave us menus and brought us water moments later. Nothing more was ever said, or asked. We sat there for quite some time, watching as a table of two came in, was seated, then a waitress quickly went to them with a greeting and readily took their order. She then went to the table right next to us, asked how everything was and dashed off. Another table of two entered, was seated, and again another waitress was quick to attend to them. Still, not a word to my bf and I. However they glanced at us once or twice, no smile or anything. Finally, a table of six came in, was seated and quickly had their drink order taken and brought to them. By this time, the first table had their food brought to them, still no regard for us. After awhile, we were tired of waiting and tired of the lack of service and ended up leaving to go have dinner elsewhere. I then contacted Groupon and had my certificate refunded, as I will not be using it or will be returning to the Green Owl cafe. I hate to sound so whiny, as I too work in the restaurant business and I know how it can get- but the place wasn’t busy and something like this would never be allowed where I work. What a bummer.

Great good- if you’re on a health kick. Great food- small portions and very healthy (which I appreciate when trying to drop a few LBs). Will def go back!

A friendly and yummy place. I had the Basic Bowl and it was wonderful. With just beans, rice, and kale, it is definitely basic, but prepared with care and very flavorful. It felt like home cooking only better. The waitress was super nice and friendly, and I love the cheery orange and green decor.

Great First Impression. The Green Owl Cafe has been open on Atwood for several years but being a west sider I rarely make it over to the Atwood area, but after recent visits to Tex Tubbs & now Green Owl, my car will be putting on a lot more miles with trips across town. I am a vegetarian, but my menu choice was new to me, BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich. The menu says the Jackfruit is a pulled pork replacement, but thinking back to my meat eating days, it reminded me as much of chicken as pork, but regardless, it was fantastic! The sandwich is served on a ciabatta roll which was the perfect bread for this combination which also includes slices of dill pickles & cole slaw. I chose kale chips as my side & they were cooked to perfection, really tasty. There were a few negatives being my first trip as I don’t know that I have been to any other restaurant in town where you are not more than a foot away from the table next to you, so I felt like the tables to both sides were eating with me. I believe I have read that Green Owl was named as having one of the best interiors in a restaurant,in town, which I could see, however, it is also really uncomfortable furniture. It looks nice, but really uncomfortable. I was in for lunch on a Friday around 1:00 & it was hopping, so disappointing to see what appeared to be only one waitperson & one hostess trying to take care of an entire dining room. My order was taken promptly & food served quickly, but it took the server close to 25 to bring me my check after letting her know I was ready to receive it. Despite the negatives, the food more than made up for it, & I will be back to try other menu items.

Why meat?. Why is it that vegetarian food needs to act like meat? BLT, meatball sub? Nothing unique here folks, kind of insulting to vegetarian food. Just get yourself a Moosewood and move on.
