Great Steak!. Delicious 5-oz tenderloin and amazing gorgonzola cheese to eat with it. Salad was wilty. Garlic roll was great! I ordered grilled scallops on the side, and the first two bites I had were gritty with sand. Boo! I’ve had the ribs here, and they were delicious. Homemade alfredo is amazing! Really good service, nice place. Be ready to wait for a very long time if you come on a Friday, but the fish is worth it! Pan fried walleye was delicious!

Last night we went to the Loading Zone for a Fish Fry only because of the reviews I read on this web site. I would have to say that it was not at all what we were hoping for. The wait was over an hour and the meal was average to say the least.

OK, but didn’t have the fish. Picked this place because it supposedly had Internet access – virtually none could not hold a signal. Had a sirloin steak, was chewy/gristly and came out lukewarm despite submitting the order and waiting an hour for our order to cook. Must only have one or two cooks on a Friday night it is run like a Chicago bar – place your order and wait. Hostess and waiter were nice, though. Someone else in our party had a fish sandwich, said it was ‘ok’. Interior looks like a rural bar, wasn’t expecting that but had lots of underage kids/family customers. For my buck, there are better restaurants out there if you have higher expectations. But it is Wausau, a nice small, northern city.

A Diamond in the Rough. If you miss eating here, you’ll miss a lot!I have been back and forth to Wausau several days a week, on business, for the past month and I’ve been desperately looking for a place to get a great steak. Until tonight, I hadn’t found a great steak in Wausau but I can now stop looking! The Loading Zone was a great find and I will DEFINITELY be back!To start off, I ordered a Michelob Amber Bock on tap. The Loading Zone is one of the few places that I have ever been that serves Amber Bock (my favorite beer, by the way) on tap. It came to my table in a large, iced, mug. Just the way tap beer SHOULD be served! After I ordered my meal, the first thing I noticed (which may seem insignificant to most people) is that the ranch dressing on my salad was ‘out of this world’! It was the best tasting ranch dressing I’ve ever had! ! I asked the waitress about the dressing and found out its homemade! While the salad itself was pretty non-descript, lettuce, a thin tomoato wedge and some croutons, the dressing more than made up for it! BRAVOFor the entree, I ordered the steak I had been craving for weeks and opted for the 12 oz. ribeye, medium rare. When it came to my table, it was not only sizzling hot but it was the most perfectly medium rare piece of beef I had eaten in a very long time. Ther was also virtually no fat anywhere to be found on this sensational tasting steak. With the steak I ordered the twice backed potatoes. The serving was small, but they were absolutely wonderful! For dessert, I decided to have the vanilla and chocolate cheesecake. There is but one word to describe it…INCREDIBLE!So how much did I pay for this incredible steak dinner you ask? For the meal, cheesecake, coffee and the icy cold mug of beer, I tallied a tab of a mere $22.00 (which included sales tax)!If you are looking for atmosphere and a stylishly decorated restaurant with curb appeal, I would not recomend the Loading Zone. It is basically a bar with a dining room so those of you with an advanced degree in snobbery, would likely run out the door screaming. But if you are looking for a fantastic meal, at a great price, with a friendly staff, you can stop looking. I will be back, again and again and ………..!

Always packed. Be prepared to wait for your classic Wisconsin fish fry. Come in, place your order, and take your number. Then head for the bar, hope for a seat, have a drink or two, and in 30-60 minutes on almost any Friday night, you’ll get the best fish fry, shrimp, salmon or tuna steak around. The waiting time tapers off after 8 PM, but not the quality. Great, friendly place for small and large groups.

Best fish fry in the area.
