AWE SUM!. Tiny, super friendly, food far exceeds the decor.. After shoveling snow every third day for the past couple of months, walking int the Jamaican Kitchens is a bit like being teleported to Sweet Spice in Negril.. After a delicious jerk pork lunch, I called in a dinner order and picked up take out, a whole jerk chicken and a some terrific veggie wraps.. Oh, and did I forget the shrimp in coconut sauce??
Great food, fun atmosphere. The location is easy to miss if you aren’t looking for it and the dining room is small, but it’s worth the stop. The husband and wife owners are both from Jamaica and proudly display their Jamaican heritage on the walls (including a map of their hometowns). The Jerk Pork sandwich is excellent…spicy but not so much that it takes away from the flavor. It’s placed on a great hoagie bun and served with a fresh salad with dried cranberries. Fresh, filling, but not so much food that you feel like you’re going to explode.I’m always hesitant to try pork chops as they can easily be overcooked and turned into a piece of leather, but not here. A super thick pork chop cooked absolutely perfectly. Well done, yet still juicy when you cut into it. The beans and rice, while simple, are an excellent side dish. They also do great chicken…perfectly fried and amazingly juicy. They also do a local thing during the summer called Lunch by the River; local eateries sell their food in Veterans Memorial Park with live entertainment on Thursdays. They have also been known to sell at the Independence Day fireworks and street dance display. If you want something different…spicy and delicious…you have to stop at Jamaican Kitchens. It’s one of (if not) the only ethnic food options in town and you will not be disappointed.
