  • Cold water, for homemade crust, 4-6 Tbsp (60-90 ml)
  • Egg, beaten, 1 (for brushing the pie)

Method

  • Start by making the pie crust (if making from scratch): Cut 150g of butter into 250g of flour and 1 tsp of salt until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Gradically add 4-6 Tbsp of cold water until the dough is cohesive but not sticky. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Brown the ground beef and pork with the onion, garlic, mustard powder, dried thyme, sage, and cloves in a large skillet.
  • Stir in the mashed potatoes and 1/2 cup of water, cooking until everything is well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Roll out the pie dough on a floured surface and cut out circles to fit your pie tin or molds.
  • Spoon the meat mixture onto one half of each dough circle, leaving room at the edges. Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges to seal.
